Elise Stefanik is a Republican who has represented New York's 21st congressional district
since 2015.
Elise graduated from Harvard University in 2006. After graduation, she managed sales and
marketing for her family’s plywood products business. She served as an aide to President
George W. Bush and was in charge of debate preparations for Paul Ryan.
Stefanik was elected to the U.S. House in 2014; at age 30, the youngest woman ever
elected to Congress at the time. She was elected co-chair of the Tuesday Group, a caucus
of moderate House Republicans and is a member of the Republican Main Street
Partnership and the Climate Solutions Caucus.
Stefanik voted to repeal the Affordable Care Act. She opposed Trump's Muslim ban of
2017 but declined to condemn the Trump family separation policy. She supported the
ending of the House Intelligence Committee's investigation into Russian interference in the
2016 elections. She criticized Trump's decision to withdraw from the Paris climate
agreement, saying the decision was "misguided" and "harms the ongoing effort to fight
climate change while also isolating us from our allies.” Stefanik was one of eight
Republicans to vote in favor of the LGBT Equality Act.
Stefanik was one of the first Republicans to call for the release of the whistleblower
complaint to Congress. She supports releasing the entire transcript of his call with the
Ukrainian President to the American public but opposes impeachment.
Elise is married to Matthew Manda, a communications and marketing executive. They live
in Schuylerville, NY.
