John James is a Republican running for the U.S. Senate from Michigan. James also ran for
the Senate in 2018 but lost by 7 percentage points.
John James earned a BS from the United States Military Academy at West Point in 2004.
He served for eight years in the U.S. Army, flying Apache helicopters in the Iraq war. He
then received an MBA from the University of Michigan and an MS from Penn State.
James worked in his father’s company, the James Group, as director of operations. He
went on to become CEO of Renaissance Global Logistics. In 2018, Trump considered
James to replace Nikki Haley as Ambassador to the UN.
James supports the assassination of Iraqi General Soleimani and the use of torture, such
as water boarding. He believes the U.S. should formally declare war on Isis. He promises
to repeal the Affordable Care Act, which he describes as “monstrous.” He is “100% pro-life”
and supports efforts to defund Planned Parenthood. He strongly opposes higher taxes on
the wealthy.
Trump campaign officials believe that a James bid would encourage Democratic turnout,
which might hurt Trump’s prospects in Michigan. According to the Holland Sentinal,
Ukrainian-American businessman Lev Parnas and Rudy Giuliani attended a campaign
event for John James in Holland, Michigan. Recently James has been deleting hundreds of
social media posts, including those that highlight his “2000%” support of Trump’s agenda.
He also erased posts that expressed his support of Trump’s efforts to repeal the Affordable
Care Act.
