Carolyn Long grew up in a rural
community on the coast. Her
mother
worked as a waitress and her father
worked odd jobs before opening a
small
business.
As a proud journeyman with the
UFCW,
Carolyn earned her way through the
University of Oregon. She then
attended
graduate school at Rutgers
University.
Carolyn started working at
Washington
State University, Vancouver in 1995.
She has worked at WSU ever since
as a
tenured professor. She was
awarded the
President’s Award for Leadership
and
Engagement, the WSU College of
Arts
and Sciences Excellence in
Institutional
Service Award, and was named
Distinguished Professor in Civic
Education and Public Civility, a
position
she left to run for office. Carolyn
also
received the Iris H-RoC Award,
which
honors women who have promoted
civil
discourse, teamwork, collaboration,
and
cooperation.
At a recent town hall meeting,
Carolyn
stated, “I am running for Congress
because I have been alarmed at the
state
of our democracy over the last
several
years,” explaining that although the
2016
election brought division among
citizens
to light the actual divide had been
going
on “for some time now.”
Carolyn’s bid for the 3rd
Congressional
District now has the support of
Washington Attorney General Bob
Ferguson and former Gov. Christine
Gregoire. Long’s “dedication to our
constitutional system makes her an
ideal
candidate to serve as a check on
this
executive and protect the rights of
Southwest Washingtonians.”
